Baroque Itinerary

Between the 17th and 18th centuries the town of Mesagne, and specifically its historical centre, was the focus of important changes that have determined the appearance that we can still see today. Numerous churches were rebuilt or restored by artisans from all over the region and often under the guidance of the excellent Mesagnese architect Francesco Capodieci. This itinerary winds through the historical centre and its immediate surroundings and includes visits to four of the most important churches in Mesagne; all splendid examples of the Puglian Baroque. The Chiesa Matrice, Chiesa di Sant’Anna and Piazza Orsini del Balzo, Chiesa di Santa Maria di Betlem and Chiesa della SS. Annunziata.
