Itinerary of subterranean Mesagne

The history of Mesagne goes back to the Iron Age. The first records of human settlement located in the highest point of the town date back to this period. In the historical centre there are various areas that, as a result of a historical stratification, are beneath the current street level. Hence, the name of the tour: subterranean Mesagne. The tour starts from the archaeological area in vico Quercia, takes in the necropolis from the Hellenistic Period, passes through the underground olive oil press in Palazzo Guarini and concludes at the ruins of the Chiesa del SS. Salvatore (only partly visible).
